Officers from the Yorktown Police Department were dispatched to the Chase Bank branch on Lee Avenue shortly after 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, where there was a reported identity theft in progress, prompting an investigation.
Police said that the bank employees notified the officers that they had been informed by a different bank branch earlier in the day that Mount Vernon resident Shaunta Dias, 46, had allegedly tried to obtain the temporary bank card for another person’s account, the same thing she was currently doing in Yorktown.
As a result of the investigation, Dias was arrested and charged with allegedly using the identity of another person, possessing a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny for attempting to obtain the ATM card from another’s account.
Following her arraignment, Dias was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond or $1,500 cash bail. She is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Oct. 2 to answer the charges.
